The above two images are an example of a Binishell – an engineering marvel in which a canvas of wet concrete is lifted into a dome shape by pumping air into a dome shaped balloon below the concrete. Its a brilliant and simple system that when properly installed provides an amazing solution to low cost construction; your formwork is a balloon and air! There were some high profile collapses in Australia related to poor installation of the Binishell, which may explain why it is not very widely used.
