Repurposing ruins

At first glance this gallery seems to be just another old ruin.  However, looking closer you realize there is something more interesting going on in this dilapidated structure.  FNP architekten, based in Stuttgart, Germany, came up with a brilliant solution for exploiting the beautiful worn nature of ruins without having to deal with the structural issues.  FNP’s S(ch)austall is a rather ingenious idea – simply slip a box into, like a new sole in shoe.

If the circumstances were right, it would be great to try this out with one of our shipping containers – the juxtaposition of  worn stone or brick with the smooth surface of a steel container could really be interesting.  Regardless, kudos to FNP for creating a brilliant and simple solution for a gallery.

enjoy the weekend!
